Scott David VanRoekel was born March 7, 1965 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of David and Carol (Roetman) VanRoekel. He was raised and educated in Cherokee, Iowa, graduating from Cherokee High School.
Scott loved being a father and being in the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and gardening. He had a great sense of humor and was known by everyone for his great one-liners. He was a skilled carpenter; most recently, he was a custom cabinet maker in Arizona.
Scott passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at his home in Spirit Lake at forty-three years of age.
He is survived by his parents, David and Carol VanRoekel of Spirit Lake; sons, Nicholas Brooks of Latimer, Iowa and Hunter VanRoekel of Two Rivers, Wisconsin; brother, Steven VanRoekel and his wife Carrie and their children Katherine and Elizabeth, of Seattle, Washington; sister, Susan Brooks and her children Nathan, Sarah and Matthew of Spirit Lake, Iowa; several aunts, uncles, nieces nephews, cousins and many friends.
