Funeral services for Sharon Cusick, 77, of Spirit Lake, will be 10 AM, Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Visitation will begin after 5 PM Friday, May 12, 2017, with the family present from 5 - 7 PM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri, Monday, May 15, 2017 at 12:30 PM.
Sharon Cusick was born July 28, 1939, in Clay County, Iowa, the daughter of Dana and Charlotte (Campbell) Devitt. She was raised and educated in Spirit Lake, graduating from Spirit Lake High School in 1957. She enlisted in the US Air Force in 1958, serving until receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1960.
Sharon was united in marriage to Howard Cusick on November 11, 1959 in Spirit Lake, Iowa. The couple made their home at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, Anchorage, Alaska, Belleville, Illinois, Redlands, California and Arlington, South Dakota. Sharon made Spirit Lake her home in 2005.
Following her time in the Air Force, Sharon worked as a seamstress and caregiver. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, gardening, traveling and fishing. She was very patriotic, loved to go on long rides and listening to music. Sharon gave of herself and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Most of all, she loved God and her family.
Sharon passed away Monday, May 8, 2017, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake at seventy-seven years of age.
She is survived by her children, Sherry Viernes and her husband, Michael and Louis Cusick and his wife, Victoria; grandson, Kenneth Viernes; sister, Barbara Worth-hanai; brother-in-law, Joseph Cusick; nephews, Ron Brown, Dennis Wallace and Mark Wallace; nieces, Kristi Cooper and Bonnie Gross-hanai; many friends and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Cusick; her parents, Dana and Charlotte Devitt; sister, Ann Wallace and brother-in-law, Dean Wallace.
