A funeral service for Shirley Boyer, age 88, of Lake Park, will be held Monday, August 15, 2016 at 10:30 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park. Burial will be at Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 14th after 4:00pm with the family present from 4:00-6:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Lake Park.
Shirley Ann Boyer, daughter of Frank and Evelyn Versluis, was born in Lake Park, Iowa on June 9, 1928. At the age of two, she moved on a farm by Harris, Iowa. She graduated from Harris High School in 1945, and in 1947 graduated from the Electronic Radio Television Institute at Omaha, Nebraska. After graduating, she was employed as a bookkeeper at the elevator in Estherville, Iowa until her marriage to Bill Boyer on February 6, 1949.
She resided in Lake Park and worked as a bookkeeper for the G & S Lumber Co. and Arnold Grain & Feed, Inc. and in 1978 became office manager at the Farmers Exchange Cooperative.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park, Iowa. She enjoyed bookkeeping and Shirley was fond of gardening, flowers and sewing. In her early years, she enjoyed dancing. She was a very generous person and dearly loved her family and friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
After selling her home in Lake Park, she spent the rest of her life at the Hawkeye Care Center in Milford. Shirley passed away August 10, 2016 at eighty-eight years of age.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Bebe Rehms and her husband, Greg; two grandsons, Jason Rehms and Justin (Melysa) Rehms; granddaughter, Megan and great-grandchildren, Deven, Raymon, Holley, Ian, Jackson and Sophia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; brother, Kenneth and one sister, Audrey.
