Shirley J. Smith

Funeral Services for Shirley Smith, 62, of Spirit Lake will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 1:00PM at the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake. Shirley passed away on March 12, 2008 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Shirley Joan Smith was born November 8, 1945 in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Marvin and Maxine McBride. She graduated from high school as well as completed seventy-two hours at Spencer Community College for Nurse's Aide. On October 8, 1966, Shirley was united in marriage to Edwin Russell Smith in Nevada, Iowa. The couple lived in Iowa, Oklahoma and Arkansas before moving to Spirit Lake on May 5, 1979. Shirley attended the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake, Iowa and was member of the Legion Auxilary, VFW Auxilary and the Hospital Auxilary. She enjoyed gardening, watching TV, reading, crafts, rummage sales and auctions. She also enjoyed visiting with people. Shirley passed away at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on March 12, 2008 at sixty-two years of age. She is survived by her husband, Ed; half-sister, Carol Gammon; half-brother, Marty McBride; step-sister, Dixie Hein. She is preceded in death by her mother, Maxine McBride; grandmother, Gladys McBride; grandfather, Harold McBride and one uncle.
