Services for Dr. Thayer "Zip" Hoover, 57, of Spirit Lake, will be 10 am, Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Spirit Life Fellowship in Spirit Lake.
Visitation will begin Friday, June 26, 2015, at 5 pm with the family present from 5-7 pm, at Spirit Life Fellowship in Spirit Lake.
Dr. Thayer Charles Hoover, son of June (Thayer) and Robert Hoover, was born October 7, 1957 in Freeport, Illinois. He graduated high school in Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1975 and later graduated from veterinary school at Iowa State University in 1982. During his college years, Zip worked hard and was able to obtain a pilot's license. He enjoyed his time flying during his early years.
On July 3, 1989, Zip was united in marriage to Cynthia Hoover in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Some of Zip's hobbies were fishing, playing with his grandson Jericho and spending time with friends.
Zip's passion was his veterinary practice. He truly enjoyed his work over the years. He began his veterinary work at Cherokee Vet Clinic from 1982-1987 and continued at Wayne Feeds from 1988-1992. He worked as a veterinarian at Pfizer/Zoetis Animal Health from 1992 until 2014. Zip was a member of the AVMA, IVMA and AASV.
Zip passed away June 23, 2015 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake at fifty-seven years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; son, Larry Hoover; daughter, Elizabeth (Jesse) Stokke; grandson, Jericho "Bub" Stokke; stepchildren, Zach (Wendy) Grages, Rachel Grages, Josiah Grages and Benjamin Grages as well as all of their families; and niece, Mindy Hoover.
Zip was preceded in death by his mother, June Hoover; brother, Terry Hoover and mentor, Dr. Larry Lemley.
