Velda Pearl Noble Joens was born February 22, 1916 to Ray and Christina Noble in Ocheyedan, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm with her sister and four brothers.
Velda was united in marriage to Frank Joens on March 9, 1938. They were married thirty-two years until his death in 1970.
The couple farmed north of Lake Park for several years before moving in to town. Velda worked for Campbell's Soup Company for over twenty years. Velda's life was about family and friends. Kids loved her and she was known as Grandma Shorty by many. Velda enjoyed people and loved the times her family could be together having fun. Her smile warmed your heart and she will be dearly missed by all.
Velda was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park.
She passed away on Friday, October 21, 2011 at Lake Park Care Center in Lake Park at ninety-five years of age.
Those left to cherish her memory are three daughters and their spouses, Jan Sathren (Darrell), Fran Jungjohan (Marv), and Linda Weerts (Gerald) all from Lake Park; grandchildren and their spouses, Mike Sathren (Pam), Shelli Nissen (Ron), Deb Albert (Jeff), Steve Jungjohan (Melissa), Cheryl Harlow; fourteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; sisters-n-law, Jo Noble, Helen Loeschen and Arlene Noble; Doug Sangl, Jan Jungjohan and RaMona Stanson, as well as nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank Joens; granddaughter, Lori Jungjohan Sangl; grandson, Timothy Jungjohan; great-granddaughter, Cassie Harlow; great-grandson, Matthew Schierholt; great-great grandson, Kade Longelin; sister, Viola; and brothers, Harvey, Donald, Lester and Robert.
