A funeral service for Verla Fry, 77, of Arnolds Park, Iowa will take place Monday, October 5, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at First Lutheran Church in West Okooboji, Iowa. Burial will be at Richland Cemetery in Inwood, Iowa. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
Verla was born in Faulkton, S.D., on Aug. 28, 1938, to Emil and Ella Olen. She graduated from Burke (S.D.) High School in 1956. She then attended beauty school in Sioux Falls, S.D., working as a stylist in Sioux City for a few years.
She married Richard D. Fry on Aug. 29, 1959, and lived in Sioux City until she retired. While in Sioux City, Verla worked as an insurance secretary at a medical office in Morningside until she retired in 2000 and moved to Okoboji, Iowa.
Verla enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Morningside Country Club in Sioux City, and Emerald Hills Golf Club in Okoboji. She loved spending time with friends and family, and was an active member of First Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the First Ringers Bell Choir. She also enjoyed being a community volunteer in the Okoboji area.
Verla passed away September 28, 2015 at her home in Arnolds Park, Iowa.
Verla is survived by her three children, Daniel K. (Linda), Carol Goans (Steven), and Steven D. (Mary Jo); her six grandchildren, Amanda Fry, Travis Fry, Emily Goans, Tyler Fry, Sean Goans, and Shannon Fry; and one sister, Ellen (Earl) VanBurkum.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Fry; and her parents, Emil and Ella Olen.
