Virgil Everett Perkins was born October 8, 1918 in Winterset, Iowa, the son of Fred and Alma (Handy) Perkins. He was raised and received his early education in the Winterset Community.
Virgil was united in marriage to Estella Dodds on April 20, 1940 in Spencer, Iowa. The couple lived in Spencer and Spirit Lake before moving to Lake Park, Iowa in 1962. Virgil farmed over the years and enjoyed fishing, playing cards, bingo, horseshoes and spending time with his family and friends. He served as a 4-H leader, worked as security at the Clay County Fair and worked as a Lake Park City Park Caretaker. Virgil was a member of the United Methodist Church of Excelsior.
Virgil passed away June 5, 2010 at the Fonda Nursing and Rehab Center in Fonda, Iowa at ninety-one years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Estella Perkins; two daughters, Darlene Wallin and her husband, Dennis of Venice, Florida and Alice Von Holdt and her husband, Ray of Lake Park, Iowa; son, David Perkins and his wife, Kathy of Lake Park; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; son, Virgil Lee; two sisters and one brother.
