Vivian June Helfenstine was born June 30, 1924 in Libertyville, Iowa, the daughter of Van T. and Bertha Marie (Scovel) Lawson.
On May 5, 1956, Vivian was united in marriage to Jack Helfenstine in Fairfield, Iowa. She lived in Maine, Michigan, Wisconsin and Kansas City before moving to Spirit Lake over thirty years ago. It was there that she owned and operated Sportsmans Pub for twenty-one years along with her husband.
Vivian was a member of the Methodist Church as well as the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and fishing.
Vivian resided at the Lake Park Care Center for four years before moving to the Milford Care Center a year and a half ago. She passed away December 14, 2011 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake at eighty-seven years of age.
She is survived by her husband, Jack; daughter, Sherry Covington of Kansas City, Missouri; son, Kevin Helfenstine; two granddaughters Lisa Stimson and Stephanie Marie Helfenstine; brother, Max Lawson of Burlington, Iowa; sister, Evelyn Clingan of Fairfield, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Edwin Lawson.
