A funeral service for Willa Jean Dobson, 89, of Milford, will be held Friday, November 2, 2018 at 10:30AM at Faith Community Church in Milford. Burial will be at Milford Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 1st from 5:00-7:00pm at Faith community Church. Willa Jean Ruth (Colvin) Dobson passed away Sunday October 28, 2018, after a decline in health at Accura Health in Milford. Willa Jean was born to Cyril and Lou (Wilson) Colvin on August 30th, 1929 in Milford, Iowa. She graduated from Milford High School in 1948 and married Harvey Dobson on August 30, 1949 in Milford. Three daughters were born, Kate in 1951, Jerri in 1954, and Mary in 1957. The Dobson's farmed west of Milford until Harvey's death in 1984 where the two worked side by side raising livestock and farming together. Willa Jean continued farming for a few years after Harvey's death. Willa Jean was a Licensed Practical Nurse, earning her diploma in 1972 from Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg. Her nursing years were spent at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital and the Milford Care Facility. After her retirement from nursing, she purchased the Dream World Skating Rink in Spencer which she owned and operated from 1991-2010. She taught hundreds of children and young adults to skate and was frequently seen on the skating floor during skating hours. In addition to the open skating hours for kids and adults, many birthday parties, and school skating parties from around the Spencer area were held. Her interests were many; she loved Roller Skating, she was active in 4-H in Westport Township, a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and an active member of Union Memorial Church, an active guild member and active in many circles at the Church. She enjoyed serving and helping with the "Harvest Home Suppers" at the church. She is survived by her daughter, Kate Hein and her husband, Dan; daughter, Jerri Louis and husband, Daniel and their two sons, Andrew Louis and Robert Louis; daughter, Mary Smith and her husband, Clyde and their two daughters, Candace Hayden and Jessica Smith; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Gavin, Jon, Gwen, Ella Hayden and Madison Derr; sister, Joyce Grim of Spirit Lake; and many nieces, great-nieces and nephews. Willa Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; parents, Lou and Cy Colvin; brothers, Milton (Bud) Colvin and Jon Colvin; brothers-in-law, Everett Dobson and Elmer Dobson.
