William Raymond Boyer, son of Fred and Mae Boyer, was born in Lake Park, Iowa on June 24, 1915. At the age of 3, he moved to Adrian, Minnesota for one year and then returned to Lake Park where he graduated from Lake Park High School.

He flew as a flight engineer and gunner and flew 40 missions in the Pacific. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and just being in his shop fixing whatever people brought in. He also was a perfectionist of building grandfather clocks. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved nature and enjoyed bird-watching. He still loved to grow things in his later years and especially liked to deliver sweet corn to his friends.
