Funeral services for William "Bill" Holiday, 92, of Spirit Lake, will be held at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
William H. (Bill) Holiday, was born December 26, 1924, at Rossie, Iowa to W. Hobart and Leila G. (Egdol) Holiday where he spent his first sixteen years. He graduated from Gillett Grove High School in 1942.
Bill married Marietta Gibson on August 3, 1947, at Dickens, Iowa. He worked in the local elevator and bank in Gillett Grove. They moved to Spirit Lake in June of 1957 to work with the Dickinson County ASC as an office manager. In 1973, he worked with the Dickinson County Savings Bank in Milford as a farm rep and Assistant Vice President. They later moved to Onawa, Iowa in June of 1982, and worked as the County Executive Director for Monona County ASCS until 1987 when he retired and moved to Estherville to be nearer to family members.
He served many years doing volunteer services for various organizations like Boy Scouts, Iowa Lakes Ministry, Iowa Association of ASC County Office Employees (IASCOE), as an officer, director and committee member of the National Assn, Spirit Lake-Okoboji Good Neighbor Fund, Spirit Lake City Council, Iowa Great Lakes Red Cross Chapter, State Red Cross Board Chairman, NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees) local chapter officer, state district director for Northwest Iowa, AARP local chapter officer, AARP tax-aide counselor, district coordinator for Northwest Iowa, AARP Iowa Marketing Specialist, SHIIP volunteer (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) and Elder Guide. He also served on various committees of the United Methodist Churches.
Bill passed away on the 5th day of August, 2017, at Hawkeye Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa from heart failure.
He leaves his daughter, Evelyn Gray and husband, Craig of Spirit Lake; granddaughter, Jennifer Pangburn and husband, Justin of Eagan, Minnesota; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Wolff and fiancé, Krisstal and their daughters, Athena, Korah and Hali, Melinda Ayers and husband Richie and their sons, Braden and Jayce and Christian Wolff and daughter, Tessa and fiancé Mary.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marietta; his parents; brothers, James K. (Jim), Richard D. (Dick) and Julian C. (Jack).
