Funeral services for William J. Wintz, 84, of Milford, will be held 10:30 am, Friday, March 24, 2017, at First Lutheran Church in West. Okoboji.
Visitation will begin Thursday, March 23, after 5:00 pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford, with the family present from 5 - 7 pm . Interment will be at Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park.
William J. Wintz was born July 31, 1932, in Milford, Iowa, the son of William Herman and Ila Faye (Austin) Wintz. He was raised on the family farm in Okoboji Township. Bill entered the United States Air Force on December 28, 1950, serving until receiving an Honorable Discharge on October 8, 1952.
Bill was united in marriage to Sharon Kreisel on March 15, 1953. The couple made their home near Round Lake, Minnesota, where they engaged in farming. They returned to the family farm in Milford in 1980.
Bill was a member of First Lutheran Church in West Okoboji. He was also a member of the American Legion, where he served as Post Commander, served on the Round Lake School Board as well as the Round Lake Township Board. He loved farming and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, camping with family and friends, and gardening.
Bill passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer at eighty-four years of age.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Sharon of Milford; children, Brent Wintz (Charlene) of Round Lake, Minnesota, Scott Wintz of Clarkfield, Minnesota, Russell Wintz (Susanne) of Fridley, Minnesota and Shelby Wintz (Mike Brower) of Edina, Minnesota; grandchildren, Joshua Wintz, Jessica Thorne, Kyle Wintz, Kara Schmitz, Evan Wintz and Trevor Wintz; and great-grandchildren, Kindra, Clayton, Cru, Harper, Emelia, Avery, Owen, Sydney, Dominic, Calvin, Lucy and Leighton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Garland Anderson, brother, Larry Wintz and infant son, Michael.
