Obituary of Dorothy Ryan

Dorothy Jean Ryan was born November 17, 1927 in Cherokee County near Cleghorn, Iowa. She was the daughter of Perry Allen King and Alice Elizabeth Gowan King. Dorothy graduated from Wilson Senior High School in Cherokee on May 22, 1946. She then graduated from The School of Nursing at State University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa on August 10, 1949. On June 10, 1950, DJ was united in marriage to Wayne Douglas Ryan in Iowa City. DJ worked in nursing for most of her life, first at University Hospital in Iowa City followed by many years at Dickinson County Hospital in Spirit Lake, Iowa. DJ and Wayne lived in Iowa City until 1971 when they moved to Spirit Lake. Dorothy passed away September 15, 2010 at Wel-life in Spirit Lake, Iowa at eighty-two years of age. She is survived by one brother, Charles King of Fairmont, Minnesota; son, Doug Ryan and his wife, Pam, of Webster City, Iowa; daughter, Jean Winter and her husband, Mike, of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; son, Dan Ryan and his wife, Liz, of Spirit Lake; grandchildren, (Dorothy) Michelle Ryan, Colin Ryan, Jason Winter, Nathan Winter and Joshua Winter. DJ was preceded in death by her parents, Perry and Alice King; sisters, Minerva Fair, Lucille King and Vierlyn Spray; brother, William King and husband, Wayne
