Obituary of Marvin Childers

Marvin M. Childers, Jr. was born June 21, 1944 in Seattle, Washington, the son of Marvin M. and Flora (Micone) Childers. He was raised and educated in Seattle. Marvin entered the US Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. Marvin was united in marriage to Rita Elphick on November 28, 1964 in Seattle, Washington. Marvin's work as a service representative for CCC brought the family to Omaha, Nebraska. Marvin worked as a Jailer for Dickinson County until retirement. Marvin and Rita recently moved to Apple Valley, Minnesota. Marvin enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and boating. He also enjoyed crossword and sudoku puzzles and trivia. Above all, however, he loved spending time with his friends and family. Marvin passed away Monday, December 19, 2011 at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at sixty-seven years of age. Left to survive are his wife, Rita Childers; children, Tamra Bonsack and her husband, Jesse, and Chris Childers and his wife Denise; grandchildren, Shawn, Sonia, Heather, Haley, Antonio, Jonathan and Christian; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Max Zoretic, nieces, nephews other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Theodore Maloney.
