Obituary of William Raymond Boyer

William Raymond Boyer, son of Fred and Mae Boyer, was born in Lake Park, Iowa on June 24, 1915. At the age of 3, he moved to Adrian, Minnesota for one year and then returned to Lake Park where he graduated from Lake Park High School. He was engaged in farming until he entered the Air Force in 1942. He was a member of the 392 Bomb Squadron 30th Bomb Group. He flew as a flight engineer and gunner and flew 40 missions in the Pacific. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to Lake Park and continued farming. He married Shirley Versluis on February 6, 1949 and continued to reside in Lake Park. Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Park and a member of the American Legion Post 371. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and friend. He enjoyed the simple things in life. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and just being in his shop fixing whatever people brought in. He also was a perfectionist of building grandfather clocks. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved nature and enjoyed bird-watching. He still loved to grow things in his later years and especially liked to deliver sweet corn to his friends. Bill passed away March 7, 2010 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa at ninety-four years of age. Bill is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Bebe and her husband Greg Rehms; three grandchildren, Jason Rehms, Justin (Melysa) Rehms and Megan Rehms; five great-grandchildren, all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sisters, Betty Carlson, Beth Brandt, Barbara Untiedt and Becky (Frank) Schierholt. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bob and Bruce.
