Obituary of Richard D. Fry

Richard D. Fry was born March 14, 1936 in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Kenneth C. Fry and Bernice (Bullock) Fry. He graduated from Inwood High School in 1954 and attended Morningside College in Sioux City. Richard served in the United States Navy from 1957-1959. On August 29, 1959, Richard was united in marriage to Verla (Olen) in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He resided in Sioux City, Iowa before moving to Arnolds Park, Iowa in 2000. Richard was employed in building material sales. He worked for Hawkeye Building Supply in Sioux City until his retirement in 2000. Richard was a member of the Emerald Hills Golf Course and the Morningside Country Club in Sioux City. He attended the First Lutheran Church in Milford. He enjoyed sports, golfing, reading and spending time with his grandchildren. He was known by his friends as "Frumpy". Richard passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at his home in Arnolds Park, Iowa at seventy-three years of age. He is survived by his wife, Verla; sons, Daniel K. and his wife Linda, Steven D. and his wife Mary Jo; daughter, Carol L. Goans and her husband, Steve; brothers, John, Jerome and his wife, Elaine and Robert; sisters, Norma Hoover and her husband, Kenny, Shirley Helwig and Bonnie Wald; six grandchildren, Amanda Fry, Travis Fry, Emily Goans, Sean Goans, Tyler Fry and Shannon Fry; sister-in-law, Ellen Van Berkum; brother-in-law, Earl Van Berkum; numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by an infant sister, Caroline; his parents, Kenneth and Bernice Fry.
