Obituary of John McCarthy

John Thomas McCarthy was born March 26, 1965, in Estherville, Iowa, the son of John (Jack) and Joyce McCarthy. He graduated from Estherville High School in 1984. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, served in active duty during the Middle East Crisis and was honorably discharged in 1987. Upon his return to Iowa, he worked various employments, spending the 15 years working at PURE Fishing in Spirit Lake. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle and spending time with his two children, Christi and Ethan. John was united in marriage to Dawn (Naviaux) in September, 2008. John passed away December 28, 2009, at his home in Spirit Lake, Iowa. John is survived by his wife, Dawn, of Spirit Lake; daughter Christi McCarthy and son John Ethan McCarthy of Spirit Lake; step-daughter, Elizabeth Naviaux, of Spirit Lake; sister Sandy (and Glen) Sunde of Estherville, Iowa; brother Kevin McCarthy of Jackson, Minnesota; Brother Mike (and Jeanne) McCarthy of Jackson, Minnesota; brother Tim McCarthy of Estherville, Iowa; step-sister, Twyla (and Bob) Vandenburgh of Alexandria, Minnesota; step-sister, Sue (and Chuck) Tostenson of Estherville, Iowa; nieces and nephews, as well as many other family and friends. John was preceded in death by his mother and father.
