Obituary of Marie White

Former Dickinson County, Iowa resident Marie D. White age 100 passed away on Oct. 27 at the Good Samaritan Center Lodi Wis. Marie was born Dec. 4, 1908 in Brooklyn, New York to Danish immigrants, Chris and Pauline Pedersen Kreutzkampf. In 1923 the family moved west and settled in Terril, Iowa and engaged in farming. Marie was united in marriage to Clifford E. White in 1930. In 1943 Marie received an appointment to serve as a supervisor of a national Youth Administration project for women in Milford, Iowa. She held the position for eight months until her twin daughter was diagnosed with a terminal illness. In 1949 after serving three years as Spirit Lake's acting postmaster, she moved to Sioux City, Iowa. There she served as the city's treasurer and later was elected as the first woman to serve as a member of the city's manager/council form of government. In the 1970s she moved to Omaha, Neb., to take a position as Director of the Y.W.C.A. During her Omaha residence Marie fulfilled a life long ambition to receive a college degree at the University Of Omaha, Nebraska and graduated in 1985, at the age 76. Marie is survived by a daughter Mary White Morgan, Lodi. Grandchildren; Terri Nelson, Suzanne (Marty) Wimmer and Thomas (Jen) Morgan all of Lodi; David (Nita) and Stephen (Kathy) Morgan, Dorothy (Russ) Hutzell. Marie (Bruce) Brannum, all of Ga.; Polly (Andy) Jennings of Tenn.; nephews Ron Kreutzkampf of Terril, Iowa, Bruce Taylor of Milford, Iowa, 25 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Pauline Taylor and Thora Hanson, brothers, Fred and Al Kreutzkampf; a son, 1st Lt. Robert White, daughter, Pauline White and a great grandson, Scott Hutzell. A memorial service will be held at the Lodi Good Samaritan Center and burial will take place Saturday, October 31, 2:00 PM at Lakeview Cemetery, Spirit Lake, Iowa.
