Obituary of Virgil Duane Hoffman

Virgil Duane Hoffman was born to Elmer and Verna Hoffman on May 23, 1921 in Wyndmere, North Dakota. Virgil was the 7th of 8 children; Addie, Velma, Eldon, Ruth, Gerald, Lyle, and Ora, all of whom preceded him in death. Virgil left North Dakota due to the Dust Bowl and settled in Iowa. Virgil met and married his neighbor and sweetheart, Avis Sorensen on February 12, 1945. Virgil and Avis raised three children, Kerry, Debbie and Val, on their farm outside of Milford. Virgil enjoyed his life as a farmer after serving his country in World War Two in the Army Air Force. He served from December 1942 to November 1945 as an Airplane Radio Operator and Gunner, flying over 400 hours and receiving a Distinguished Flying Cross. Virgil enjoyed fishing and hunting, as well as coffee and cards with his close friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Avis; children and their spouses, Kerry & Inga Hoffman, Debbie & Jody Witt, and Val & Ken Karczewski; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
