Funeral services for Hazel Dean will be held Monday, October 5, 2009 at 10:30AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley, MN. Hazel passed away October 1, 2009 at eighty-eight years of age. Hazel Edith Fischer was born on October 29, 1920, to Ida and Wilheim (Willy) Fischer at Hartley, Iowa. Her parents traveled from Germany to America in the late 1800's, entering through Ellis Island, NY. Hazel was baptized at St. Johns Lutheran Church, attended school at Excelsior, Iowa. She was spoken of as a vivacious young lady, lots of friends and an excellent basketball player. Hazel, with blue sparkling eyes and a quick smile, dreamed of marrying a dark-haired, brown-eyed man (and she did). Their love of the outdoors included hunting, trapping and fishing. Together they traveled the entire United States, Europe and Canada. They retired from farming in 1976. From their union of love were born 7 children. Barb and Edsel Badke, Sioux Valley, MN, Dave and Linda Dean Jr., Sioux Valley, MN, JoAnn and Ken Meyer, Worthington, MN, Doug and Erlynn Dean, Clarrisa, MN, Ellen and Jack Bockman, Sedalia, MO, Dan and Jackie Dean, Thompson, IA and Danette and Mark Wheeler, Jackson, MN. Hazel was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sioux Valley, MN on May 16, 1948. Thereafter she was a faithful member of the church and was active in Ladies Aide. She also helped her children in all of their 4-H projects. She attended all of their grade school and high school activities. Dave and Hazel, to pass on their love of the outdoors, took their children and grandchildren to northern MN and Canada on numerous fishing trips. To promote natural habitat, Dave and Hazel planted many trees for the benefit of wildlife in and around Skunk Lake. Hazel was a very caring person who deeply loved her husband, her 7 children, 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Being a decedent of immigrants, Hazel had a deep love for the United States. She was proud that all 3 sons had served this country in the military, both local and overseas. She thoroughly enjoyed getting together with family for reunions, birthdays and especially Christmas parties. Her wish is that the family would continue these traditions after her departure. Hazel will always be remembered for her friendliness, easy smile, kindness, sense of humor and her love of relatives and friends. She always expressed her love of the Lord, her knowledge of the hereafter and the reuniting with the love of her life, Dave.
