Obituary of Norman Carlson

Norman's wishes were to have no formal services. A memorial fund has been established for the local camp of Gideons, specifically for military Bibles. Mr. Carlson passed away November 7, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville. Norman (Norm) Daniel Carlson was born January 5, 1933 in Cherokee, Iowa to Clarence K. and Viola E. (Graham) Carlson. He graduated from Aurelia Consolidated High School. Norm married Wanda J. Hilsabeck on May 20, 1951 in Spencer, Iowa. They lived in eight states and the four countries of Korea, Germany, Thailand and Vietnam. They lived in Spirit Lake since 1999. He served his country in the U.S. Army from January 1951 to July 1971 and retired as a Master Sergeant E8. Norm attended the Baptist Church and Good News Community Church, and was a member of the hospital auxiliary and the American Legion. His hobbies included growing roses, yard work, restoring old peanut machines, traveling all fifty states, Canada, England and Europe. Norm passed away November 7, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville at seventy-nine years of age. Norm is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Dan (Marilyn) Carlson; daughters Deb (Roger) Hayenga, Karen (Duane) Voy; ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
