Obituary of Helen Farrow

Helen Farrow, 107, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 at her home in Spirit Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Elmore United Methodist Church. Helen Joyce Farrow was born January 23, 1906 in Elmore, Minnesota, to Bessie Ripley and John H. Krosch. She was raised and educated in Elmore, graduating from Elmore High School in 1924. Following high school, Helen attended Mankato State Teacher's College in Mankato, Minnesota, where she obtained her teacher's certificate. Helen was united in marriage to Everett "Murph" Farrow on November 27, 1926. They made their home in Elmore, where Helen taught at the Elmore Country School for a short time. She then began her career as a dental assistant and bookkeeper for Dr. Mohn and then for Dr. Pat Morgan until she retired in 1984 at seventy-eight years of age. Upon retirement, Helen moved to Blue Earth, Minnesota to live with her sister Alice Farrow. In 2001, she moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa to live with her niece, Pat Larson. Helen enjoyed gardening, counted cross stitch, reading and writing letters. On March 16, 2013 at the age of 107, Helen passed away at home with her family by her side. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Everett (Murph) Farrow, parents, John and Bessie (Ripley) Krosch, brothers, Mark, Harold and John Krosch, sisters, Alice Farrow and Marjorie Dickman. Helen is survived by her nephews, Al (Muriel) Krosch, Duane (Delores) Krosch, Richard (Mary) Krosch, Leon (Joyce) Farrow, Ted (Nelda) Dickman, and nieces, Pat Larson, Audrey Looft, Allaire Jutting, Loraine (Jim) Pirie, Joan Holom, Lillian (Ram) Mittal, Leota (Greg) Brucker, Mary (Patrick) Rockhill, Nola Krosch, and Avis Hobbs. Although Helen didn't have children of her own, her heart of gold and caring touch was such that her nieces and nephews considered her as their grandma instead of just their aunt, great aunt, or great, great aunt.
