Obituary of Norman Preston

Funeral Services for Norman Preston, 91, of Lake Park, Iowa, will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 15, 2020, at Indian Lake Baptist Church in Worthington, MN. Interment will be at Indian Lake Baptist Cemetery. Norman James Preston was born August 3, 1928 in Los Angeles, California to the parents of Daniel Chadwick Preston and Geraldine Grant (James) Preston. Norm loved his ’32 Ford Vic and racing cars. He met Lucia (Lou) Durando and he had to choose between her and the race car. He chose her and they were wed on October 6, 1950 in Inglewood, California. They were married for sixty-nine years when Lou passed away December 7, 2019. They were blessed with three children. Norm worked as a typesetter and printer for his parent’s newspaper, Marina News, for many years. He also worked as a weather stripper. Norm and his family purchased and ran a campground in Truckee, California for several years. He also worked as a maintenance man at ski resorts in the Lake Tahoe area. He then worked as a carpenter and cabinet maker. They lived in Encino, California, Truckee, California, Flagstaff, Arizona, Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, Stevensville, Montana, Lynchburg, Virginia and moved to Lake Park, Iowa in 2011. Norm’s hobbies included woodworking, reading, golfing and also caddied in his youth years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as his church family. Norm had a way of bringing a smile to the face of everyone he encountered. He enjoyed keeping in touch with friends they met wherever they lived. He was on a trip west to visit friends and family when he was in an accident. He passed away, surrounded by family, at the Swedish Hospital in Denver, Colorado on January 20, 2020. He is survived by his son, David Preston and his wife, Julie; daughter-in-law, Erma Christensen and her husband, Dennis; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jason and Tracey Preston, Tyler and Nataly Preston, Courtney and Steven Warrington, Angela and Tim Fisher and Andy Preston; four great-grandchildren, Peyton Fisher, Kailer Warrington, Reese Fisher and Carter Warrington; brother, Dan Preston and many nieces, nephews and other family. Norm was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lou; son, Steven Preston; daughter, Nancy Ayers and son-in-law, Doug Ayers.
