Obituary of Larry Bush

Larry LeRoy Bush, the son of LeRoy and Sylvia (Schroeder) Bush, was born in Spirit Lake, Iowa on January 16, 1938. After graduating from Spirit Lake High School in 1955, Larry enlisted in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1959 and returned to Dickinson county where he started farming southeast of Lake Park, which was his true passion. On February 15, 1969, Larry was united in marriage to Mary Lee Kunze at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Larry always had a positive upbeat attitude regardless of the situation at had which is a true testament to his strong faith in God. Larry enjoyed bowling which was an interest that began early in life after his first job in high school as a pin setter at the Spirit Lake bowling alley. This interest took him to many local, state and national bowling tournaments, which also made memorable family vacations. Any bowler's goal is to roll a 'perfect 300 game', and Larry did just that! He also enjoyed playing cards, was an avid sports watcher, especially the Minnesota Twins and Iowa Hawkeyes and enjoyed ballroom dancing. Later in life, he traveled with his buddies to dances in Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota. He was a lifetime resident of Dickinson County and recently had moved to the Twin Cities to be close to David. Larry passed away May 13, 2020 at Southview Acres in West Saint Paul, Minnesota. He is survived by his son, David and spouse, Christopher Metsgar of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sister, Connie (Bob) Peters of Lake Park, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Lois Funk, Mildred Clauson, Carol Burreau and Pat Kunze, all of Worthington, Minnesota; nine nieces and twelve nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Mary and his parents, LeRoy and Sylvia Bush. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a private family service will be held on Thursday, May 28. Cards in honor of Larry may be sent to the Bush family at 5040 11th Ave. South, Minneapolis, MN 55417. Memorials in Larry's honor may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2300 27th Street, Spirit Lake, IA 51360.
