Obituary of Dorothy Mae Ross

A funeral service for Dorothy Mae (Leavitt) Ross, age 82, will be held Saturday, October 31, 2020 at 1:00pm at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Spencer. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon on Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Peterson Cemetery in Peterson. For those attending the visitation or service at the church, masks will be required.

Dorothy Mae (Leavitt) Ross, the daughter of Erving Jeremy Leavitt and Lillian Eldonna (Abbott) Leavitt was born in Vale, Oregon on February 7,1938. She passed away on October 23,2020 in her home in Webb Iowa with loved ones by her side.

Dorothy married the love of her life, Charles H. Ross (Sr.) on January 14,1957, in Pioche, Nevada and they were sealed to each other for all time and eternity on June 4,1977, in the Saint George Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints Temple. They enjoyed 63+ years of marriage together.

She worked alongside Chuck in many hotels in Las Vegas as a banquet and buffet waitress for many years. They also had their handyman/painting business’ in Las Vegas, Florida and Iowa. They managed a motel in California and a trailer park in Las Vegas. She was a devout member of her church and was the church librarian for 20+ years.

She loved her family and friends totally and unconditionally. She was a Blessing form God to each and every one of us.

Dorothy loved and is loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She would give you the shirt off her back if she thought you needed it. She loved to spend time with her family and friends and she always loved to see all the new animal babies in the spring. She was always the first to offer help whenever it was needed, she would even drive across the country to help. She made the best fudge, breads, jellies, canned veggies, fruits, pickles and meats, which she won many ribbons for at the Clay County Fair.

Left to cherish her memory are her eternal husband Charles H. Ross(Sr.); her children, Licia Christensen, Jennie (Bobby) Mattox, Chuck (Jr.) (Amy Strait), Jerry (Darla) and Deianne(Ronnie) Ogline; sister, Lorena Wagaski; sisters and brothers in law who were more like brothers and sisters, Jerry (Pam) Ross, Betty Leavitt, Marilyn (Charles) Newberry, Jack Marchand, Dave (Barb) Ross, Chad Christensen, Dennis (Barbara) Ross, Sara Skipper, Becky (Mike) Johnson and Marilyn Taylor; 31 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her father in law and mother in law Herb and Anna(Parr) Ross, daughter Rochelle Blum, Grand daughter Renea Blum, son in law Kim Christensen, Siblings LeRoy(Emily) Leavitt, Martha(Dave) Morris, Vern Leavitt, Gene Leavitt, Larry Leavitt, Patricia(Harold) Smith, Joey Ross, Marcia Marchand, Judy Ross, Gene Skipper and her best friend Sally Kindlespire.
