Alma Roberta (Haddock) Timmer was born at home, near Smithland, IA on March 19, 1935, to parents Samuel (Bert) Haddock and Bessie (Curtright) Haddock.  She was the oldest of five children and accepted Jesus as Savior at the age of ten.

Alma attended a country school until the family moved to a farm near Anthon, IA when she was in 3rd grade.  She attended Climbing Hill Consolidated Schools where she graduated as valedictorian of her class.  She participated in many activities including basketball, Declam, plays, choirs and a sextet.  Outside of school she was active in her church youth group, babysitting and a member of the Grant Gogetters 4-H club.

After high school graduation, Alma attended LeMars College to pursue a degree in elementary education.  She began her teaching career in Archer, IA.  She also taught in Sibley, IA, Fulda MN, and Brewster, MN.  Alma enjoyed substitute teaching for many years in the Lakefield and Jackson school districts where her sons and grandchildren often had her as a sub.

Alma met the “love of her life”, Kenneth Timmer, when she went home with her college roommate, Phadoris, (Kenneth’s sister) for a weekend visit.  Kenneth and Alma were married June 28, 1957 at the Methodist Church in Anthon, IA.  They raised 4 active sons – Daryl, Myron, Perry, and Kyle.

Besides substitute teaching, Alma worked as a weekend cook at the Lakefield Hospital until it closed.  She also worked as a cook and caregiver at Doman Rose Assisted Living.  She enjoyed reading, sewing, playing games, and watching her grandchildren grow up.  Alma had a fondness for trees, leaves, grapes and making memory quilts for her graduating grandchildren.

The Timmers always attended church wherever they lived.  Alma and her husband Kenneth began attending Faith Evangelical Free Church in Spirit Lake, IA in 1970 – currently known as CrossWinds Church.  Alma served her faith community through teaching Sunday School and VBS, serving as an officer of the lady’s group, participating on the Sunday School Board of Education, and as the Secretary of the Church Board.

Alma passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN at the age of 86.

Alma is survived by her four sons: Daryl of Marine on St. Croix, MN, Myron of Oak Grove, MN, Perry of Jackson, MN, Kyle of Honey Creek, IA, and their spouses; 6 grandchildren: Kassidy Stith, Alex, Colton, Destiny, Kya, and Karly Timmer; 2 great-grandchildren: Noah and Marlee Stith; sister: Irene Lantz; brother: Earl Haddock; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Janice and Robert Ruckelhausen.  She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and close friends which includes the Northern Lights women.
