Obituary of Dale Luehring

A memorial service for Dale Luehring, age 91, of Terril, will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, March 20, 2023, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Terril. Visitation will be from 2 pm - 5 pm on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.  Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Terril.

Dale Luehring, the son of Richard and Edna Luehring, was born on March 5, 1932, in Estherville, Iowa. Growing up, Dale attended school and graduated from Terril High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army in July of 1950. During his time of service, he earned the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged in July of 1952. 

On July 5, 1953, Dale was united in marriage to Florence Straight in Newell, Iowa. The couple lived in rural Terril where they raised their five children. Dale worked as a farmer and carpenter for many years. 

In his free time, Dale enjoyed fishing, golf, softball, woodcrafts, square dancing, card parties, bowling, going to Luby’s and the seed shed for coffee. Family and friends were very important to him. 

Dale was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Terril as well as the American Legion Walsh Post 432. 

Dale passed away on March 15, 2023, at Accura Healthcare in Milford at ninety-one years of age. 

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Roger (Terri) Luehring of Gladbrook, Iowa; Marjorie (Richard) Insko of Manson, Iowa; Jane (Jed) Banas of Marshalltown, Iowa; David (Brenda) Luehring of Terril, Iowa; son-in-law, Paul Kollasch of Spirit Lake; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and sister, Betty Von Ehwegen of Terril, Iowa.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; daughter, Diane; parents, Richard and Edna Luehring; father and mother-in-law, Harry and Irene Straight; and brother-in-law, Duane Von Ehwegen.
