Obituary of Joy Fredin

Joy passed away April 10, 2023 at Accura Healthcare in Milford.

Joy “Janelle” Fredin was born July 4, 1929, near Kirkman, Iowa to Nels C. Jacobsen and Faye L. (Gaer) Jacobsen. She graduated from Kirkman High School in 1946 and attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls. She was united in marriage to William Bruce Fredin on December 28, 1949, at Kirkman, Iowa. 

She worked in various offices for several years, including three years at the Home State Bank in Royal. The couple lived at Havelock, Webb, Royal and Corwith before moving to Arnolds Park in 1967 where Bill was the Superintendent of Schools for 18 years.  They moved to Wahpeton in 1991 and to Milford in 1998. 

She is survived by her three children: Craig and wife Pam of Carlisle, Iowa; Dee Ann Warren of Chesapeake, VA; and Kristi Kay Jones and husband Sean, of Prescott Valley, AZ; five grandchildren: Dr. Jason Fredin; Jessica Fastenow and husband Steven; Jon Fredin; Charles Baker and wife Annie Olsen-Baker; and Timothy Clawson; six great-grandchildren and one brother, Galen Jacobsen and wife Sheryl of West Des Moines and their son, Clark Jacobsen of Des Moines. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in 2020, her parents, infant brother, Dwain Keith, and son-in-law Mark Warren.

She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Arnolds Park.
