Obituary of Kraig Grave

A Celebration of Life Gathering for Kraig Grave, age 64, of Lake Park will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 4:00-7:00pm at the Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Lake Park.

Kraig Virgil Grave, age 64, of Lake Park IA, died Thursday April 20th, 2023, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington MN. He was born September 30th, 1958, in Worthington MN, the son of Virgil and Norma (Van Briesen) Grave.

He graduated from Harris-Lake Park high school in 1977. After high school, Kraig attended Des Moines Area Comm. College for diesel mechanics/refrigeration and graduated in 1979.

Kraig married Maria Shupe in September of 1983. The couple later divorced.

Kraig married Robin Klitzke in May of 1988. The couple lived in Round Lake MN and to this union two children were born, Jackie & Jessica Grave. The couple later divorced.

During his working career, Kraig worked at Woodrums garage in Lake Park IA during high school. Returning home from college he was employed as a mechanic at Ford-Mercury Shop in Worthington MN, diesel mechanic at Sathers in Round Lake MN then finally maintenance supervisor for Smith Trucking in Worthington MN. Kraig was an amazing mechanic, from motorcycles to cars to semis. If he couldn't fix the problem, then it probably wasn't worth fixing. Kraig tried his best to instill his knowledge of cars to his daughters, but ultimately decided to admit defeat and signed them up for AAA roadside assistance.

While living in Round Lake MN, Kraig was a part of the Round Lake Volunteer Fire Department for 12 years. Kraig spent his winters on a snowmobile and summers on his bike.  If you ever had the pleasure of riding side by side with Kraig, it was never a dull moment. In his free time, he enjoyed spending it with friends and family, whether it was summer days on the deck or Sunday Funday at the local "swell-hole". Kraig had a tough exterior but loved with all his heart; he was honest, hardworking and fair.

Kraig is survived by his two daughters, Jackie Grave, Lake Park, IA; Jessica Grave, Windom, MN; three grandchildren, Addisyn Siemers, Lake Park IA, Tavia Grave & Maverick Knutson, Windom MN. Sister, Roxanne (Dan) Bohlke, Iowa City IA; Niece Allison Bohlke (Alex Henningsen), Portland OR. Great nephew, Harrison Gray Parsons, San Rafael CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil & Norma, Niece Megan Bohlke and many friends and family.
