Obituary of Wilbur Boeke

A Graveside Service for Wilbur Boeke, age 90, of Ocheyedan will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 1:00pm at the Ocheyedan Cemetery in Ocheyedan. 

Wilbur Leon Boeke was born on August 8, 1932, to Leo H.J. Boeke and Rena L. (Brunemier) Boeke near Ocheyedan on the farm his grandparents moved to in 1903 from Hardin County, Iowa.

He attended country schools through the lower grades then attended Zion Parochial School for 7th and 8th grades. Wilbur was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Kallsen. 

He lived on the farm with his parents until they all moved to Ocheydan in 1967. Wilbur really ejoyed his ducks and guineas. He was known around Ocheyedan for mowing lawns, blowing snow, doing odd jobs, and picking up pop cans. 

In 1980, Wilbur became a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan where he attended regularly until he went into Country View Manor in Sibley in March of 2010. 

Wilbur passed away on July 5, 2023 at Osceola Regional Health Center in Sibley. 

He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Schafer of New Hope, Minnesota, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. 

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Boeke; sister, Donna Michelson; brothers-in-law, Bill Schafer and Everett Michelson; sister-in-law, Mary Boeke; and nephew, Randy Boeke.
