Obituary of John Garms

A visitation for John Garms, 80, of Lakefield, Minnesota, will be held Friday, August 4, 2023 from 1:00-3:00pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley. Following the visitation there will be a graveside service at 3:00PM at Sioux Valley Cemetery. 

John Henry Garms, born on May 23, 1943, peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at the age of eighty.

John's roots were firmly planted in Sioux Valley, Minnesota, where he was raised and educated. John was united in marriage to Linda Kay Porter in 1965. Together, they built a loving home in Sioux Valley, dedicating themselves to raising their four children and nurturing their family. For many years, John worked for KLK Construction until he retired in 2010.  After retirement, he continued to work for Sioux Valley Township and many of his neighbors.  He enjoyed helping others by doing backhoe work and grading roads.  In his spare time, John enjoyed rebuilding tractors and remodeling homes.   

John's memory will forever be cherished by his beloved wife, Linda, and their children: Lee Garms (Meggan Hoffmann), Mark Garms (Jody Garms), Wade Garms (Jacalyn Garms), and Julia Garms (Mike Wood). He was a proud and loving grandfather of 6 grandchildren.  In addition to his immediate family, John leaves behind two sisters, Ruth Slocum and Rita Slocum.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Henry and Evelyn (Kocak), and many close friends.  

John Henry Garms will be deeply missed by all who knew him, as his warm heart, unwavering love, and generous spirit touched the lives of many. May his memory forever be a blessing to those he loved and left behind.
