Obituary of Colleen Marlow

A memorial service for Colleen Marlow, age 88, of Spirit Lake, will be held Friday, May 17, 2024 at 12:00 Noon at Downtown Church in Milford. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church.

Colleen Ruth Marlow, daughter of Patrick James McGuire and Me Le (Sherman) McGuire, was born September 21, 1935, in Spencer, Iowa. She peacefully passed away on May 3, 2024, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa, at the age of eighty-eight.

On October 29, 1953, she was united in marriage to James Edward Marlow in Lawton, OK. While Jim was stationed in Germany for sixteen months, Colleen resided with her aunt in Mankato, Minnesota. Upon his return, they established their home in Lone Rock, Iowa, where Jim worked at the Lone Rock Elevator and Colleen lovingly took care of the home and cared for their six children. Colleen also had her own ceramic business in Lone Rock.

In 1995, after Jim's retirement, they moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa. Colleen enjoyed painting, golfing, and making quilts for her family members. In fact, at their new home in Spirit Lake, they added on a room to ensure she had enough space for her quilting. 

Colleen loved the Lord and her faith was very important to her. Colleen and Jim attended Downtown Church in Milford, Iowa.

She is survived by her husband of seventy years, James Edward Marlow; her children, Scott Marlow (Kim), Cathleen Marlow (Charles), Kevin Marlow (Clare), Joleen Marlow, Dana Marlow (Brook) and Shannon Marlow (Gayla); seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Colleen is also survived by her sister, Mary Kissner; brother, Joe McGuire (Karen); sisters-in-law, Joyce Bausman and Nancy Marlow.

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Me Le McGuire; brother, Dan McGuire; sisters-in-law, Shirley Arus, Betty Smith, Wilma Bonstead and Doris Dallman; and brother-in-law, Robert Marlow.
