Obituary of Anna Mae Winters

Anna Mae (Godfrey) Winters was born on February 24, 1932 in Washta, Iowa to William and Edna (Small) Godfrey. In 1938 she moved with her family to rural Lake Park, Iowa. Anna Mae attended Excelsior Consolidated School graduating in 1949 as valedictorian of her class. She then attended Mankato School of Business in Mankato, MN. Upon completion she worked at a credit bureau in Spencer, IA until her marriage. On December 29, 1957 she married Marvin Winters in Lake Park, IA. The couple made their home on farms in rural Lake Park. Upon Marvin's death in 2002 Anna Mae moved to a home in Lake Park until 2007 when health concerns necessitated her move to Keelson Harbour Assisting Living in Spirit Lake and then to North Lake Manor, Storm Lake in October, 2011. Anna Mae loved working outdoors and was an equal participant in all aspects of the farm. Every fall she could be found in the tractor hauling countless loads of grain to the elevator. She liked to garden and can the fruits of her labor. She was a member of the Lake Park United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She belonged to the Rebekah and Royal Neighbor lodges and The Excelsior Federated Women's Club, holding many offices in each. She was a 4-H leader for ten years and also belonged to the Lake Park Historical Society. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children Michael (Debra) Winters of Paducah, KY, Shelley (Tim) Hohneke of Storm Lake, IA, Steven (Kathy) Winters of Lake Park, IA, Susan (Bruce) Klenken of Spencer, IA. Grandchildren: Vanessa (Kris) Dunkerson, Kelsey Winters, Evan Winters, Angie Hohneke, Brad (Erica) Hohneke, Kevin Winters, Adam Winters, Grace Winters, Allison Klenken, Jenny Klenken. Great-grandson Jaden Carter. She is also survived by her brother Melvin (Pearl) Godfrey of Lake Park and brother-in-law Richard (June) Winters of Worthington, MN. Several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, her parents, her brother Duane and sister Shirley.
