Obituary of Richard Martin

Richard Stancliff Martin was born February 6, 1923 in Venice, Illinois to Richard and Mildred (McMahan) Martin. Richard entered the US Navy on June 23, 1943, serving during WWII and receiving an Honorable Discharge on April 16, 1946. Richard married the love of his life, Doris M. Birtwhistle on May 6, 1946 in Mishawaka, Indiana. He received his BS in Education from Washington University in 1945. Richard's career at Packaging Corp. of America brought the family to Bloomington, Illinois, Dixon, Illinois, Downers Grove, Illinois, Quincy, Illinois and Marshalltown, Iowa. The couple have lived in Spirit Lake, Iowa since 1983. Richard passed away Monday, May 9, 2011 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake at eighty-eighty years of age. Survivors are his wife, Doris; daughters Linda (Charlie) Kraut of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mary (Doug) Ebert of Quincy, Illinois, Laurie (Lonnie) Stayton of Elgin, Illinois; Son Richard (Martha) Martin of Washington, Missouri; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
