Obituary of Cindy Hanby

A visitation for Cindy Hanby, 61, of Machesney Park, Illinois and formerly of Spirit Lake, will be held Sunday, April 28, 2019, at 3 pm with the family present from 3 - 5pm, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Memorials in honor of Cindy may be directed to Leukemia Research Foundation. www.allbloodcancers.org Cindy S. Hanby was born in Spirit Lake, ,Iowa, the third daughter of Ivan and Evelyn Larsen. Cindy's early years were spent on the farm before moving into the city of Spirit Lake, where she graduated from Spirit Lake High School. Cindy was united in marriage to William Hanby in July 1979. To this union, one daughter was born Miranda Hanby. Cindy worked for several years as an HR Manager in Omaha. When the family moved to Michigan, Cindy decided to retire and spend more time with Miranda. Cindy spent many a day, night and weekend watching Miranda compete in softball and downhill skiing. Cindy was all about adventure so traveling in the US, Europe, Mexico, and the Caribbean was a big part of her life. She loved to visit different countries for the culture, sights and experience. When Cindy was not traveling, she could usually be found doing Tai Chi, yoga, volunteering or simply relaxing with her head buried in a good book. When possible, weekend summers were spent at the lake house on Big Spirit enjoying the sounds of the water and cool breeze or driving around in her Miata with the top down. Cindy never stopped enjoying life while battling leukemia that was discovered in April 2011. Cindy kept her illness a personal secret from her friends as well as family members. Cindy's strength and determination will be missed by those who knew her. Cindy died Tuesday, April 23, 2019, peacefully at her home, at sixty one years old. She is survived by her husband, Bill of Machesney Park, Illinois; daughter, Miranda Hanby of Machesney Park, Illinois; sister, Pat (Larsen) Wallerich of Hawaii; niece, Kristen Hayes and her family of Arizona She was preceded in death by: her parents; a sister Linda Hagedorn and nephew Paul Hagedorn.
