Obituary of Lyle Johnson

Lyle Johnson, 87, passed away Friday, June 24 at his home after a lengthy battle against cancer. Lyle was born July 27, 1923 to Frank and Ruby Johnson. Lyle married Beryl Bowden September 5, 1944. Lyle took great pride in his family of 7 children, 19 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren. Lyle is survived by his wife of 66 years: his children Cheri DeWaard (Marv) Waterloo, Ia; Vicki Billingsley (Jim), Milford; Larry Johnson (Berni) Laguna Hills, CA; Lila Delaney (Gary) Titusville, FL; Brenda Packebush (Ed), Milford; and Sheila Reed (Mark), Spirit Lake; his sisters Betty Carpenter (Omaha, NE), Donna McTigue (Sapphire, NC), Dorothy Sjostram (Perham, MN), and Beulah Fliss (Puenta Gorta, FL). Lyle was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Jeannette Rubeck, in 2004; brothers Kenny, Lindale, Harvey, and Ronnie; and parents. Lyle's 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren will cherish his memory. His grandchildren are Dawn Naatjes, Marcia Osberg, Ryan Rubeck, Chad DeWaard, Alisa DeWaard, Troy Billingsley, Tina Goertzen, Jamie Peterson, Ross Johnson, Jason Delaney, Dana Loyd, Ross Packebush, Joel Packebush, Whitney Packebush, Meagan Barnhart, Brian Norman, Kelli Norman, Tully Reed, and Tessa Reed. Lyle loved his family, his animals, his gardening, fishing, his friends, Bingo, and a good joke. Lyle's family thanks the doctors and nurses at Spirit Lake Medical Center, the Abben Cancer Center, Avera Medical, and Lakes Regional Home Care and Hospice for their loving care.
