Obituary of Mary Ann Schlichte

A funeral service for Mary Ann Schlichte, age 81, of Spirit Lake, Iowa was held Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake. There was a Rosary on Saturday at 8:30 AM followed by a visitation beginning at 9:00 AM at the church. Following the burial at Lakeview Gardens Cemetery, friends and family were invited to lunch and a time of fellowship at the church. Mary Ann (Brincks) Schlichte was born January 9, 1938 in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Anton and Clara (Huelsing) Brincks. She grew up on the family farm outside Carroll with her seven siblings. Mary Ann was united in marriage to Orval Joseph Schlichte on June 17, 1958 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Carroll, IA. The couple made their home in Des Moines until 1964, when they moved to Spirit Lake, IA. They were married for 40 years and raised four children. Mary Ann was the owner and manager of Mary Ann's Launderette in Spirit Lake for many years. Later she worked with Orval at their Business Telephone Company. She also was a real estate agent and together with her husband owned Lakes Realty for 20 years before retiring. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake for over 50 years, where she was a Eucharistic Minister. Mary Ann passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in La Crosse, WI at the age of 81 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Her favorite pastime was dancing and she is dancing in heaven now. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Orval, her infant sister Shirley, and her brothers Delbert and Irwin. Left to survive are her four children; Sandy Maier (Doug) of Jacksonville, FL, Lois Ottenberg (Matt) of Holmen, WI, Connie Hall (Mark) of Austin, TX, and Dave Schlichte (Heather) of Holmen, WI; seven grandchildren, Eric, Dylan and Audrey Ottenberg, Gregory and Amanda Maier, and Courtney and Colin Hall; her sisters, Alvina (Wayne) Poeppe, Bernice (LaVern) Halbur, Rosie (Charles) Martin, and brothers LeRoy Brincks, and Melvin Brincks.
