Obituary of John McCann

John Allen McCann was born April 13, 1936 in Spirit Lake, Iowa, the son of Royal F. McCann and Edith M. Partlow. John graduated from Arnolds Park High School in 1954. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from December 15, 1954 until receiving an Honorable Discharge on October 14, 1958. On September 3, 1959 John was united in marriage to Shirley L. Reed in Garden Grove, California. The couple lived in Southern California until moving back to Spirit Lake, Iowa in 1974. A son, Mark, was born to this union. He was employed in the finance department of Rockwell International. in Southern California for sixteen years and the State of Iowa Liquor Department in Milford and Spirit Lake, Iowa for twelve years. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Milford. He was a Life Member of the DAV, Chapter #59 in Milford and Life Member of Amvets Post 70. John also enjoyed being a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for over ten years. He enjoyed travel, fishing, playing cards, the Chicago Bears and horse racing. John, a long-time resident of Francis Sites, carried a pride for this country in his heart since his service days. He wanted to show that pride in his neighborhood and purchased 10 flags with the help of a neighbor, then asked people in the neighborhood if he could display them
