Obituary of Joel Skaar

Joel Evan Skaar, 70, a former Ironworker and Boilermaker who was a member of Spirit Life Fellowship Church in Spirit Lake, Iowa since moving to the area in 1993, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2010 at Lakes Regional Hospital. Joel was born March 14, 1940 in Stoughton, Wisconsin and graduated from Rio High School in 1959. In 1989, he suffered a massive stroke and shortly thereafter moved to Spirit Lake, IA to be cared for by his sister, Sue Fischer and her husband, Dr. Richard Fischer. He enjoyed restoring American muscle cars, racing motorcycles, and hunting. Joel is preceded in death by his parents, John and Esther Skaar; brother, James; and daughter Banner. Survivors include nine children, Jeri Dee, Jeff, Scott, Penny Jo, Randall, Tesh, Heather, Erika, and Joel; three brothers, Jon, Tom, and Peter; and sister, Sue. A small intimate gathering is planned by the family in remembrance of his death.
