Obituary of Sue Wodka

Sue Ann Wodka was born on June 21, 1962 in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Basil and Kay (Streit) Monkelien. She graduated from Spencer High School, in Spencer, Iowa and Iowa State University. Sue was united in marriage to Jeffry Jon Wodka on September 26, 1987 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Ames, Iowa. Sue worked as a flight attendant for American Airlines. She retired from the airline to begin the career she most cherished, at home caring for her children Sara and Jacob. She worked at the Haun Elementary School Library and the Plano Public Library and also volunteered many hours in her children's schools and activities. Sue loved the Lord, her family and her Iowa roots. She had a gentle spirit, a kind, patient and generous heart and the gift of being a good listener. Her home was a place of warmth, welcome and joy. Her creativity and care are evident in her children, her home and in all of those who knew and loved her. Sue passed away on Sunday February 13, 2011 at her home in Plano, Texas. Left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted husband Jeff, her beloved children Sara Elizabeth and Jacob Jon, mother Kay Monkelien, grandmother Hazel Streit, sisters Sandra (Dan) Peterson and Sheryl Monkelien, brother Scott (Nanette) Monkelien, her mother- and father-in-law Pat and Ed Wodka, brothers in-law Mike (Terri) Wodka, John (Sandy) Wodka, sister-in-law Mary Dettmer, nieces and nephews Annie (Brett) Huls, Emily Peterson, Kayla Monkelien, Krista Monkelien, Brittany Wodka, Brandon Wodka, Ben Wodka, Luke Wodka, Patrick Wodka, Nathan Dettmer, Nicholas Dettmer and Conner Huls, many cousins and friends. Sue was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
