Dick was Baptized in Christ on September 23rd , 1934 and confirmed on April 2nd , 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1953. His grocery career started in high school at the Thrifty grocery store in Denison. Upon his graduation he was transferred to Spirit Lake, Iowa where he met LeAnn Holle. Dick and LeAnn were married at Concordia Lutheran Church in Lake Park on February 15, 1958. For approximately 39 years he was employed with Fareway Grocery Stores in Estherville, Spencer and Spirit Lake. After retiring from Fareway he continued working part-time with HyVee Food Stores in Spirit Lake, making floral and pharmaceutical deliveries to Lakes Area residents. Dick stocked thousands of shelves, carried out a multitude of grocery sacks and warmly greeted many customers. Dick also had a passion for auctions, and after his retirement could be seen helping area auctioneers set up for the weekend auctions or bidding on the next family treasure. Dick's family remembers his passion for sports and projecting his insight on the games. He enjoyed collecting guns, old Ford tractors and other "treasures". He loved history, both local and worldwide, often making up his own version. Sometimes you just didn't know what to believe. In his later years he could be seen riding his bike, walking the trails with his partner Sparky, playing and fishing with the grandchildren or spending the mornings shooting the breeze at the library and brushing up on "current" events. Dick is survived by his wife, LeAnn Jaacks, son Richard Lee Hanzlick-Jaacks and wife Heather of Stewartville, MN; Julia Ann Kimball and husband Brad of Washington, IA. Four grandchildren, Brock, Lauren, Morgan, and Michael Kimball.
